Hi there — we’re Sandy and Alan, the couple behind The Happy Place @ Tinnanbar.
Our story here began in 2020, during a drive south from our hometown of Bundaberg after the Covid lockdowns. While exploring the area, we stumbled upon the peaceful little beachside town of Tinnanbar, and it instantly captured our hearts. Not long after, we came across this charming old house for sale — weathered but full of character. We knew straight away it had the potential to be something special.
As we began restoring the home, we discovered its unique history: originally the Torbanlea Rail Shed from the 1880s, relocated and reimagined over the years. During the renovation, locals and visitors would often stop by to share fond memories of holidays spent here as children — stories filled with laughter, fishing trips, and simple joy. That sense of connection and nostalgia inspired us to bring the home back to life and open it up for others to enjoy.
We named it The Happy Place because that’s exactly how it makes us feel — and we hope it does the same for you.
Alan grew up by the ocean and is happiest out on the water — boating, fishing, and exploring the straits. Sandy is a nature artist who finds endless inspiration in the ever-changing tides, beach treasures, and the nearby bushland.
While The Happy Place is a forever-evolving project, we’ve created a space where families, couples, and friends can slow down, unplug, and enjoy the natural charm of Tinnanbar. Whether it’s casting a line, watching the sunrise over the water, or simply enjoying a quiet cuppa on the deck — this home is about the simple things that make life feel full.
We’d love to welcome you and share this special spot with you.
Warm wishes,
Sandy & Alan
